project description

We are excited to announce that 10 new Global Learner slots will be added for the 2008-2009 school year.  Informational meetings will be held both Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22 and 23 at 4:30 p.m. in the Educational Support Services building.  Current Global Learners will be on hand to answer any questions and to showcase some of their projects. (you would only need to come to 1 of the days) This initiative, which was last year funded by a grant awarded through Title II Part D and district referendum funds, is aimed at achieving the following goals:
  • Increase teacher frequency and level of technology integration in targeted classrooms.  A total of 26 teachers will be participating in the first year.
  • Use modern technology tools for teacher collaboration, student project creation, and to improve student engagement in learning.
  • Increase student proficiency with tools of the 21st century.  These tools include productivity tools (Office applications), collaboration tools (project planning, voice over Internet or teleconferencing, and data collection), and presentation tools.
  • Prepare students for the world beyond K-12 by creating real-world opportunities for students to develop collaboration skills, critical thinking, and information literacy.
  • Increase number of student projects created using technology that demonstrate learning (e.g. websites, podcasts, videos).

During the 2006-2007 school Adams 14 unveiled a comprehensive five year desktop computer replacement plan.  The plan includes spending in excess of $500,000 annually to replace student and teacher computers and increase the availability of mobile technologies such as laptop carts and presentation carts.  This project is the next step in the goal to increase student achievement through the infusion of technology.

Participants in this program include nine math teachers from Adams City High School, eight 6th grade teachers from Kearney Middle School, and nine teachers that apply to participate and are selected by a district committee.

For school year 2008 -2009 ten additional teachers will be selected to participate.  Candidates will be selected by a district committee.
